Congressman Owens Announces Congressional Art Competition
Art competition to run February 24th – April 3rd
Washington, Feb 24 -
WASHINGTON – Congressman Bill Owens announced today that his office is currently accepting submissions from high school students in New York’s 23rd Congressional District for an annual Congressional Art Competition.
“This competition is a great opportunity for young New York artists to display their talent before a large national audience,” said Owens. “We have a tremendous amount of talent in the region, and I look forward to seeing a part of the community displayed for millions in Washington.”
For entry into the art competition, students should submit a digital copy and a completed Student Information and Release Form to [email protected]. This form can be found at http://house.gov/content/educate/art_competition/pdf/student-information-release-form.pdf or by requesting a copy from Congressman Owens’ office. The winner of the competition will have his or her submission sent to Washington, D.C. to be displayed for one year as part of the national student art exhibition in the U.S. Capitol. All submissions must be received by Owens’ office no later than Tuesday, April 3rd.

GUIDELINES
This competition is open to high school students only. Exceptions may be made for schools that have 7th through 12th grades on one campus.
Artwork must be two-dimensional.
Each piece can be no larger than 28” high, 28” wide, 4” deep, including the frame.
Artwork is required to be framed.
Artwork cannot weigh more than 15 lbs.
Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws.
Artwork will hang in the Capitol for the entire year of the exhibition and cannot be returned to the students earlier. Students should, therefore, submit artwork they will not need for other purposes.
ACCEPTED MEDIA:
Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers
Collage
Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
Mixed Media: use of more than two media such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
Computer-Generated Art
Photography
TIMELINE:
April 3rd – Art submission deadline
May 1st – Winner announced
May 24th – Winner’s artwork is displayed in the Capitol.
